Caspian at The Cabot on 11/29/2024
It had been 5 years since Beverly, Massachusetts band Caspian had graced their presence at The Cabot Theatre in their hometown. This time it was a celebration of 20 years as a band. Their explosive instrumental post-rock sound filled the auditorium of the over 100-year old theatre. They played a mighty 13-song-set that spanned all the albums recorded in their career. They also brought some former band members to play a few songs, “Ríoseco” with Erin Burke-Moran on guitar, and “Loft” with Joe Vickers on drums. Bass player Jon McMahan also appeared on “Sycamore.” Part of Caspian history is founding member Chris Friedrich’s untimely death in 2013. founding guitarist Cal Joss played the solo acoustic “CMF” as an homage to their friend and former bandmate.
Caspian are one of those “local” bands that you rarely see playing shows in their home state, but when you do, they often sell it out and they always put on one of the best performances you can imagine. Such a momentous occasion as a 20th year celebration they did not hold anything back and put on a very memorable show.
