Rising star and singer songwriter Corook took the "Committed to a Bit" tour to the Sinclair after their debut album with the same name came out February 28th, 2025.
After graduating Berklee College of Music they created a song that became a viral sensation on TikTok in 2023 titled "If I were a Fish" it explores the question, why is everybody on the internet so mean? After seeing that song being covered by a drummer friend of mine, I was hooked. I started exploring all their songs and became a fan of all of them.
Their writing is very vulnerable and tender about navigating the world as non-binary queer individual and questioning their own internet-fame. Their music at times is somber, then sometimes upbeat and sometimes angry. The show was really fun even with some of the sadder lyrical content of some of the songs. It felt like group therapy of sorts.
As an ally, I may not have related to 100% of what the topics are about but they present them in a general way that is easy to enjoy and come away with a little bit more understanding and compassion about differences of people. I hope it's not the first time I can see Corook perform!
The comedian Kel Cripe opened the night, who was also very entertaining. They had a standup style that was more lowkey and awkward, not wanting to be too out there, while still having a message to deliver, about their own journey being non-binary.
Look for the "Committed to a Bit" tour coming to a city near you for the remainder of March into early April 2025.
